The Grimaldi Forum Monaco has chosen as its theme for the Summer 2016 Exhibition: Francis Bacon, Monaco and French Culture. The exhibition will show over sixty works by the artist making it one of the most ambitious projects lately.
The Grimaldi Forum will present the work of Francis Bacon (born in Dublin in 1909, died in Madrid in 1992, lived in London, Paris and Monaco) from a unique angle: the influence of French culture and his Monegasque period. Major triptychs as well as famous and less well-known paintings will be displayed thematically and will show direct and indirect relationships to France and Monaco.
One of the features of this exhibition will also be to cross-reference major works of the masters who inspired Francis Bacon: Giacometti, Léger, Lurçat, Michaux, Soutine, Toulouse-Lautrec and others.
The works displayed come from public and private collections. They will show the full range of eloquence and force of this monstre sacré’s art. Among those prestigious institutions lending paintings will be the Tate Britain and the Arts Council in London, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Centre Pompidou, as well as numerous private collections.
Until Septembre 4th 2016 – Open everyday from 10 a.m to 8 p.m – Until 10 p.m every thursday.

Aboriginal and Oceanic art will be showcased at Taba Naba, a major exhibition on the theme of oceans and water, taking place at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and one of the highlights of the summer season in the Principality. The theme will be approached from varying perspectives thanks to the participation of many artists.
The exhibition is overtaking the entire Oceanographic Museum, with artworks being not only inside the building, but investing in the outdoor space (including the terrace and the building façades). The different works (paintings, installations, sculptures, artefacts…) highlight the strong interdependency between people and their environment, and address contemporary issues from a societal, ecological and philosophical perspective.

The Ephrussi de Rothschild Villa is preparing for the 7th annual Roses and Plants Festival. On May 7 and 8 , some twenty exhibitors, rose growers, nursery owners and professionals from the world of gardens are heading to the villa to pass on their passion and knowledge about flowers to the general public. Walk through a plethora of climbing roses and ground-cover roses, both old and modern, in a huge range of colours (pink, red, yellow, white, orange) from the softest of pastels to the brightest red.
Whether a novice or more experienced gardener, the different exhibitors have something for everyone. Alongside the rose growers, in the avenues of the French garden you can find other professionals displaying rare plants, exotic or Mediterranean flowers, irises, citrus fruits and much more.
Several activities are also on offer to allow both adults and children to explore the world of plants: guided tours of the nine themed gardens at the Ephrussi de Rothschild Villa, workshops runs by florists to teach you to make bouquets, or by gardeners to learn the best way to repot plants.
If you want to go beyond the basics and learn more about roses and horticulture, you can listen to the talks given by the French Rose Society, or ask the gardeners questions – they will be happy to help.

The exhibition will bring together 150 major works by great artists who made up Russia’s avant-garde art scene from 1905 to 1930. These Russian artists crafted an unprecedented modernity that set them completely apart from what had been known until then and shook up centuries of convention and academism.
The Grimaldi Forum exhibition is truly exceptional in that it will feature artworks loaned by Russia and which have never previously left the country’s museum collections:Russian State Museum in St Petersburg, the Pushkin Museum and the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow as well as from some important European museums.

If you’ll be on a family holiday, it’s worth stopping by the Potager des Princes in the Palais Carnoles. A wonderful place to visit for parents and kids alike, it’s full of vegetables, citrus plants and sculptures.
In Nice, “the Baie des Anges” (Bay of Angels) is known worldwide … but do you know how the bay got its name ?
According to legends, this name was given to the bay because of the angels came from heaven to accompany Sainte Réparate, the Patron Saint of Nice who arrived on the coast on a boat adrift.
For fishermen, it is a different story! At one time the bay had many large fishes in it with side fins looking like angels wings. When the fishermen saw these winged sea creatures they called them “angels”.
So between legends and traditions … the choice is yours!
